What are construction accidents?

Any injury sustained as a result of a mishap at a building site could be termed a construction accident. The injured party may be a bystander, in which case the general law of personal injury would apply; the person would then file suit against the general contractor in charge of the site. The victim may also be a worker on the job site, and the case would be subject to the law of employee injuries. This might amount to a worker’s compensation case or similar litigation. However, there are often multiple contractors on the same site, and the injury could be the fault of another contractor. In this case, the injured party might not be subject to laws regarding workers’ compensation, but would instead be seen as a bystander, and his attorney may be able to mount a personal injury suit against the other contractor.

What types of accidents occur on construction sites?

Common types of accidents on construction sites include:

· Falls
· Electrical accidents
· Being struck by large objects such as extensions on heavy equipment
· Workers being caught by their equipment, such as power tools

Falls are most common, often resulting from faulty scaffolding or unmarked hazardous areas. Electrical accidents are fairly frequent as well. Accidents resulting from power tools or heavy equipment occur less frequently.
